This coffee is produced by Tarekech Werash, an Ethiopian coffee farmer who believes that anyone who tastes her coffee will fall in love with it from the very first cup. Grown in the renowned highlands of Yirgacheffe at over 2,000 meters above sea level, this lot is a beautiful expression of the region’s exceptional coffee heritage.
On her 5-hectare farm, Tarekech cultivates local Ethiopian landrace varieties alongside JARC selections using environmentally conscious farming practices. The coffee grows under shade trees in nutrient-rich volcanic soils, while homemade compost replaces chemical fertilizers, helping to maintain a healthy and biodiverse farm ecosystem.
Only fully ripe cherries are handpicked during harvest. After careful sorting, the cherries are dried on raised bamboo beds for up to 24 days, a traditional natural process that highlights the coffee’s distinctive character and quality.
Tarekech is part of the Lalisaa Project, an initiative that supports Ethiopian smallholder farmers through training, quality improvement programs, and better market access. This coffee reflects the unique terroir of Yirgacheffe, sustainable farming practices, and the passion of a dedicated producer whose family has been cultivating coffee for decades.
